• About us

We're two kids who grew up thinking how great it would be just to try out things God says in the Bible and see what happens. The more we try out, the more He makes happen. The experiment works. You can try it, too.

Pancake Update #4. More than You Ask or Think.

    By DnA | May 22, 2008

The wonderful provision of a stove and fridge.

We were helping our neighbors move out when we saw it!  A shiny four burner stove with an oven and an overhead broiling rack!  I guess we were staring or maybe even drooling, because when we snapped back to reality our neighbors were looking at us as if we were a little bit strange.

“That’s a beautiful stove,” we stammered.

“Yes it is.  What kind does your place have?” they asked.

“We don’t have one at all,” we answered.

“Oh, then you should just move this one over to your place.  Tell Moira in Housekeeping; she won’t mind at all.”

Seemed almost too good to be true, but lots of things God does are, so we hightailed it down to see Moira first chance we got.

“Of course you can take it,” Moira said.  “Could you use a refrigerator/freezer, too?  I have one available just now.”

Could we!  Wow!  We have had a small hotel fridge, and it has been a great blessing, but a freezer!  We make almost all of our meals up in our room, and a freezer opens up a host of wider possibilities.  Maybe even ice cream once in a while, and ice cubes for those hot summer days on the way.

That same day we also ended up with a fan, a longer mirror, a larger bulletin board and a new bed with four drawers for storage in the base.  What fun!  We left the US requiring nothing, telling the folks at Bulstrode that we would be happy with any accommodations they had available.  But God is so generous and loves to give His children little things to delight their hearts.  Praise Him for His faithfulness to us here, and for all these little trappings of coziness which He has brought to us this week.  It’s beginning to feel a lot more like a home.  Now all we need is for some of y’all to come visit us.

About those pancakes: the stove runs off a large bottle of gas (almost full!) and must be lit each time it is used.  The only way we have to light it, as you may remember, is our Bic lighter.  This method tends to serve up (along with your meal), a blackened thumb. So Daniel lit it once, and we made grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch, but we are not using it too often until we can get some wooden matches.  We’ll keep you posted.

      Wow! Progress! : )

Have to let us know how your first batch of pancakes taste! Make sure you have some clotted cream or nutella on them… for the folks back home.

Just a note to say how much I enjoy reading your news. It’s so great the way God is providing for you. What a marvelous adventure!

It also keeps me up to date on your prayer needs and, if you would like, I will put any requests on the Cornerstone prayer chain.

God continues to bless you as you trust Him. Your lives are a lesson for me.
